The island of Vis is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea.
The farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland, with only 3,460 inhabitants on the 90.26 square kilometres. Inhabited by Greeks and Romans many centuries ago, the island is known for its unspoilt nature due to the isolation as a military base till 1990-ies. Crystal clear sea, beaches, caves and cliffs, as well as is green agricultural inland.
It is 60 km away from the Split airport, reachable by ferry (http://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/ferry-croatia); speedboat (http://www.krilo.hr/images/Sailing_schedule_VIS.pdf) and watertaxi from Split, 3 times per day in May, September and October.
Komiza is the second largest town on the island, vibrant fishermen village on the SW end of the island, today one of the most frequented nautical spots in Croatia. Komiza is a cultural and gastronomic centre with pristine beaches in the very city centre and a breath-taking landscape. Great energy and atmosphere of an old town with its narrow medieval streets surrounded by the sea.
The Island of Vis is beautiful, the waters are crystal clear, the landscape beautifully rugged, dotted by vineyards, olive groves, lemon trees, lavender and rosemary. Centuries old churches still hold daily services and stand proudly ringing their bells every 15 minutes, their chimes ringing through the old town. The locals are so friendly and relaxed, this place is a paradise and we were so lucky to have experienced it in such a way. We were so sad to leave and are sure we will return to Vis one day.

The town is wonderful, bustling in the summer but never felt too busy or touristy. We had a great stay.

Komiza was a fantastic place to stay, it was by far our favorite spot in Croatia. The town is picturesque and everyone we met was so hospitable and friendly! I would highly recommend it above Vis Town.
